MoU Signed With CIDC to Promote the Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Programme

A specially designed Vocational Program B.Voc., is being launched jointly by Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) and the University to address the acute shortage of skilled professionals essentially needed in the Construction Industry. The non availability of skilled workers results in poor quality of construction, supervision and workmanship. The endeavor made on the part of the University will be a golden opportunity for Graduates and Diploma holders of various engineering disciplines pass out with good theoretical knowledge but badly lacking in the practical skill for proper placement and employment. This specially tailored program introduced by UGC, not only bridges the gap existing in knowledge gained and skill required for the job but also develop student’s capabilities in holistic manner.

The program covers seven streams in construction including Building Construction, Roads & Highways, Waterproofing, Construction Chemical Application, Operation and Maintenance of Construction Equipment, Trenchless Technology Application, Construction Project Management & Building Management. On qualifying B.Voc. program, the students will be competent to handle Site Supervisory Operations skillfully. The course has been structured on the lines of “Learn while you earn”.

The candidates will initially invest one year to earn basic diploma enabling them to get employment. The next level of the course is Advanced Diploma followed by Bachelor’s degree. The Construction Industry Development Council has been set up jointly by the Planning Commission (Niti Ayog), Govt. of India and Indian Construction industry. The Council is striving hard to develop programs aims to improve the required skills of learners for better employment in the sector.

For proper persuasion and implementation an MOU has been jointly signed by CIDC and TMU, to promote Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) program. The program would operate through a Co-ordination Council with joint representation of the two organizations. The students enrolled for the course, will be awarded certificates jointly by CIDC & TMU. The CIDC has consented to extend facilities in setting up “Academy of Construction” to promote the development of dedicated skilled construction professionals.
