The students of FOE & CCSIT’s department of Physics visited the Inter-University Acceleration Centre (IUAC) as a part of their educational tour on 25th October. The educational tour was of a single day and centered on the objective to familiarize the Physics students with the scientific environment and advancement in the physics field. Physics faculties from the college Dr. Amit K. Sharma and Dr. Vishnu Prasad Shrivastava accompanied the students at the center.

At IUAC, New Delhi the students were greeted by the head scientist Ms. Golda Komalan, who presented a PPT focusing on the agendas and development of IUAC. The students were shown Rutherford Back-Scattering (RBS) Lab, Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) facility for radiocarbon dating or time-stamping of geological and prehistoric samples, where Mr. Umapati and Mr. Abhisek Singh (Scientists from IUAC) explained about 1.7 MV Pelletron accelerators,  RBS chamber and 4-axis goniometer.

Next, the students were taken to visit the pelletron control unit lab, where Mr. Yashraj demonstrated the Tandem Van de Graaff Ion accelerator which is the biggest Tandem Accelerator in India and has a terminal potential above 15 Million Volts.

The joiner scientists accompanied the students around the facility and also answered their doubts regarding various other accelerators.

Faculty of Engineering & College of Computing sciences & Information technology (FOE&CCSIT) students are exposed to such site & industrial visits to help them be more receptive to their industry. FOE & CCSIT ranks as one of the topmost private colleges with good placement and facilities for BSC (H), BCA, B-tech programs. The college is also actively progressive regarding the overall development of the students and caters to their growth by conducting various outdoor & cultural activities.

Students from the Department of Physics were very much benefitted by the industrial visit as they could observe the working of the latest technological advancement in the physics sector that they had just learned from books. The students thanked the faculty members for arranging this visit.
