Department of Social Work, established in 2009, offers the Master of Social Work and Ph.D. program. Master of Social Work comprises of classroom and fieldwork components spread across four semesters. The program encourages students to increase self awareness, and awareness and understanding of other members of the society.
The curriculum integrates advanced concepts and developments in social services sector with an understanding of traditional Indian value system. The program strives to develop knowledge, and skills required to comprehend socio-economic realities and developmental needs to address contemporary issues effectively.
Program curriculum is designed by experts from academia, government, NGOs and international organizations. The program trains students to independently work on challenging assignments for the oppressed and the vulnerable sections of society. The program is strongly grounded with foundation courses on major social science disciplines, perspectives and methods and elective courses in Physical and Mental Health, Community Development, Disaster Management, and Child Protection and Child Rights. The field learning component is run in partnership with leading social service, health care and community agencies. Social work graduates are recruited by public and private agencies, NGOs and the health care sector to work with individuals, families, and communities to resolve social and emotional issues in diverse fields including Human Resource Management, Community Development, Child Welfare, Juvenile and Criminal Justice Administration, Correctional Institutions, Mental Health Centers, Addiction Treatment, Family and Guidance Counseling, Social Policy Advocacy, and Public Welfare.
