Through knowledge of general human anatomy with special emphasis on head and neck, cadaver dissection and detailed study of hard and soft tissues of the human body. The department boasts of an excellent museum with lifesize models and charts. The department trains the students to understand different anatomical structures of human body, especially head and neck region.

It also teaches the histological features of normal structures of the body.

Medical microbiology deals with the causative agents of infectious diseases, the ways in which they produce disease in the human body and essential information for diagnosis and treatment. Most of the oral diseases are caused by microorganisms and they also cause post-operative complications.

Therefore, it is important to study microorganisms, the disease, proliferation and aseptic techniques.

  • Checking of dental caries by Snyder Test.
  • Culturing of oral flora.
  • Antibiotic sensitivity testing.
  • Lab diagnosis of enteric fever, TB, syphilis, hepatitis and diphtheria.

The laboratory is equipped with binocular microscopes, sterilization instruments, aerobic and anaerobic culture methods and necessary nutrient media.

Complete urine analysis and haemogram with Hb estimation, blood grouping and haematocrit investigations are also undertaken here. Many histopathological slides and specimens are available for case studies.

The department trains the students to understand the therapeutic and the toxic effects of various drugs on human body as well as to acquire the knowledge of their use in managing the diseases.
Physiology and biochemistry are those disciplines which link basic science with clinical medicine and dentistry. It is integrative and encompasses everything from the study of molecules to the study of organ systems and their interactions which allow us to function as human beings.
The majority of medically compromised patients need oral health care, hence a working knowledge of the multitude of compromised conditions is essential for dental professionals. The curriculum during the 3rd professional year of BDS includes training in general medicine. The students acquire knowledge and skills of analyzing findings from patient’s history and signs and symptoms. Special emphasis is placed on assessment of Cardiovascular, endocrine, metabolic, respiratory, renal diseases and blood dyscrasias.
In General Surgery students are familiarized with principles of general surgery and common general surgical procedures. Evaluation of patients for general anesthetic technique and management of emergencies along with intravenous seduction is taught.
The Department of Prosthodontics is the largest department of the college. The Department has both undergraduate and Postgraduate section. The department provides specialized dental treatment for patients aspiring artificial replacement of teeth and other structures in the head and neck region. It is a very vast department covering various fields like Complete Denture, Removable partial Denture, Fixed Partial Denture, Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Implantology. The Department of Periodontology deals with the most basic structure of the oral cavity i.e. Periodontium. The department has been divided into various sections like, undergraduate section, postgraduate section, minor operation theater, seminar room, patient motivation and counseling room. We provide specialized dental treatment towards patients complaining of stained teeth, receding gums, bad breath, food lodgment, traumatic occlusion of the teeth. Various surgical procedures undertaken in the department includes full mouth flap surgeries done by both conventional and microsurgical techniques, gingivectomies, depigmentation, periodontal plastic surgeries, various regenerative procedures and implants.

The Department of conservative dentistry and endodontics is the largest outpatient department of the college. The Department has both undergraduate and Post-graduate sections. The department provides quality education right from the first year of BDS, with emphasis on quality & comfortable treatment to the patients. The students are well groomed in the subject with dummy work and preclinical education before they enter into the clinical work in third year of BDS. Specialized phantom head laboratory is available for BDS students for pre-clinical activities.

Department provides specialized dental treatment which includes amalgam restorations, GIC fillings, composite restorations (laminates and veneers), root canal treatment, post and core, crowns, endodontic surgeries, and the most modern esthetic make-up of the teeth etc. The department covers fields like conservative dentistry and endodontics. In addition to these, the subject of Dental Materials is also taught in the department to the BDS students.

The emphasis is given on microscopic restorative as well as surgical training, also latest root canal treatment procedures are also taught to students of MDS.

The specialty of Oral Pathology and Microbiology deals with the characteristics, causes, processes and effects of diseases of the oral cavity and the associated structures. It mainly focuses on diagnosis of pre-cancer and cancer of orofacial region.

Also the department is involved in a number of teaching programmes for graduates and post graduates, which consist of basic dental anatomy, oral biology and oral pathology.

Dental anatomy and oral biology deals with detailed description of the structures present in the mouth the knowledge of which is essential for the 1st BDS students.

Oral pathology deals with the diseases of the mouth and associated structures and is taught in 2nd and 3rd BDS. The department conducts regular class tests, practical assessments and viva-voce to ascertain students’ progress in the subject.

The department has a well equipped histopathology lab, and tutoring lab for the undergraduates. Project work in the form of models/charts is allotted every academic year to U.G. students. These are displayed in the clinics and museum for educational and awareness purposes.

Research work is also carried out in the department and post graduates are also encouraged to conduct research projects and studies.

The department consists of a research room where the discussion of the slides is done and discussion regarding the ongoing and planned research projects is done.

The Department of Public Health Dentistry is committed to oral health of the community by various preventive and curative activities in the department and extends the same in out reach programmes. There are two satellite centres, where health promotion and treatment are provided.

The department has a well equipped mobile dental unit with two dental chairs which helps the dental health care team to reach out to the underserved segments of the population.

In addition, throughout the year oral health field programmes are held in and around and remote villages of Moradabad.

Oral health education is provided in the museum attached to the department, also required with audiovisual aids. We do have Tobacco Cessation counselling centre in the department.

The Department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry strives to provide comprehensive, preventive and specialized dental treatment for children including pit & fissure sealants, topical fluoride application, GIC fillings, composite restorations, root canal treatment, pulpectomy, pulpotomy , post and core, crowns including stainless steel and permanent, preventive and interceptive orthodontic treatment, habit breaking treatment as well as management of pediatric fractures. The Department also performs full mouth rehabilitation under General Anesthesia in collaboration with Department of Anesthesia, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College regularly for young uncooperative children suffering from early childhood caries. The Department of Oral Medicine &Radiology is the diagnostic department in the field of dentistry. The Department has both undergraduate and Postgraduate section. The department provides specialized diagnostic modalities both clinically and radiographically. It deals with the diagnosis and medical management of oro-facial diseases and the oral manifestations of systemic disorders and dental management of medically compromised patients. It also deals with maxillofacial imaging with conventional and advanced imaging methods. Students are taught how to examine the oral cavity, recognize the range of normal appearances, and distinguish what is abnormal by studying the features of various oral diseases. The department also deals with medico-legal cases by examining and evaluating dental evidences which may then be presented in the interest of justice. “Prevention is better than cure”, is the principle we follow and encourage the patients to quit tobacco habit in any form so as to prevent the oral cancer and premalignant lesions and conditions.
