The laboratory is equipped with binocular microscopes, sterilization instruments, aerobic and anaerobic culture methods and necessary nutrient media.
Complete urine analysis and haemogram with Hb estimation, blood grouping and haematocrit investigations are also undertaken here. Many histopathological slides and specimens are available for case studies.
From the humble beginning of dental background, confined to treating difficult extractions and impacted teeth and jaw pathologies, to treating of facial bone fractures the speciality has gradually widened its expertise to cosmetic jaw and facial surgery (Orthognathic Surgery), Oral Rehabilitation through Dental Implants, Jaw Joint disorder management and to the handle the ever burgeoning burden of oral pre-cancer and cancer of oral cavity.
Department provides specialized dental treatment which includes amalgam restorations, GIC fillings, composite restorations (laminates and veneers), root canal treatment, post and core, crowns, endodontic surgeries, and the most modern esthetic make-up of the teeth etc. The department covers fields like conservative dentistry and endodontics. In addition to these, the subject of Dental Materials is also taught in the department to the BDS students.
The emphasis is given on microscopic restorative as well as surgical training, also latest root canal treatment procedures are also taught to students of MDS.
Also the department is involved in a number of teaching programmes for graduates and post graduates, which consist of basic dental anatomy, oral biology and oral pathology.
Dental anatomy and oral biology deals with detailed description of the structures present in the mouth the knowledge of which is essential for the 1st BDS students.
Oral pathology deals with the diseases of the mouth and associated structures and is taught in 2nd and 3rd BDS. The department conducts regular class tests, practical assessments and viva-voce to ascertain students’ progress in the subject.
The department has a well equipped histopathology lab, and tutoring lab for the undergraduates. Project work in the form of models/charts is allotted every academic year to U.G. students. These are displayed in the clinics and museum for educational and awareness purposes.
Research work is also carried out in the department and post graduates are also encouraged to conduct research projects and studies.
The department consists of a research room where the discussion of the slides is done and discussion regarding the ongoing and planned research projects is done.
The department has a well equipped mobile dental unit with two dental chairs which helps the dental health care team to reach out to the underserved segments of the population.
In addition, throughout the year oral health field programmes are held in and around and remote villages of Moradabad.
Oral health education is provided in the museum attached to the department, also required with audiovisual aids. We do have Tobacco Cessation counselling centre in the department.
