Each year, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre commemorate World Tuberculosis (TB) day on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing these diseases.

TB remains the world’s deadlines, infectious killer. Each day, nearly 4500 people lose their lives to TB and do to 30,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease.

The theme of World TB day 2019- “it’s time”- put the accent on the urgency to act on the commitments made by the global leader to:

  1. Scale up access to prevention and treatment.
  2. Build accountability.
  3. Ensure sufficient and sustainable financing including for research.
  4. Promote an end to stigma and discrimination.
  5. Promote an equitable, rights-based and people-centred TB response.

On 25-03-2019, world TB day cum RNTCP sensitization program was organised by Chest & TB department TMMC&RC. Prof. Ajay Pant, HOD Department of Orthopaedics and Medical Superintendent was the chief guest – he stressed on the counselling of the patient and adherence on Antituberculosis treatment (ATT). Dr Najmul Huda, Prof. Department of Orthopaedics (Our Guest of honour) deliver briefing regarding World TB Day. Dr Rajesh Agarwal Prof. and HOD department of pulmonary medicine, Rohilkhand Medical College, our guest speaker delivers a nice lecture on TB update and solve the queries of the audience.

Dr D.K Premi DTO Moradabad told about gazette on TB notification from Government of India- 100% notification of the TB patient is must and physician reluctant to notify the disease will be punished under IPC-269 & 270. Dr Sachin Singh Yadav Associate Professor Department of community medicine presents the global and Indian scenario of Tuberculosis. Dr V.K. Singh (Prof. and HOD department General Medicine), Prof. S.K. Jain (Vice Principal, TMMC&RC), HODs, JRs and MBBS students of the various department also attended the World TB day of TMMC&RC Shri Vipin Jain (Director Hospital , Planning and Development) was also Present. In the end, a vote of thanks given by Dr Mazher Maqusood Associate Professor of the Chest&TB (CT).
