A state level one day workshop was organized in the magnanimous auditorium of the university to motivate and sensitize the administration specifically and common people in general, to make them aware of the preventive measures to mitigate the impact of the disaster. The workshop was massively attended by administrative officers of five districts of Uttar Pradesh and academicians from the region.

The event was presided over by Mr. S. K. Verma, Commissioner, Moradabad. In the key note address delivered by Dr. Ravinder Kumar Pandey, Professor-Kumaon University, Nainital emphasis was laid on advance preparedness, which is the main way of reducing impact of disaster as prevention is always better. Mr. S. Mahapatra from NDMA, New Delhi, elaborated the activities designed to minimize loss of life and damage by removing people and property from threatened location and facilitating timely and effective rescue, relief and rehabilitation. He asked the administration to educate people by mock drill and give high priority to community based preparedness and management. The risk can be mitigated with good evacuation plans, he added.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, District Magistrate, Moradabad highlighted the importance of team work in recovery activities including rebuilding infra structure, healthcare and rehabilitation with a blend of development efforts. The role of different departments of the area administration in prevention of disaster was also discussed in the assembly of dignitaries present in the event.

L. Venkateshwar Lu, Relief Commissioner, U. P. called upon all the officers to update their knowledge about the area for prevention, monitoring and perpetual check on unforeseen incidents. Efforts should be made to replace damaged infrastructure with better design and style. He advised one and all to include disaster management in their life style. The officers from Rampur, Bijnor, Sambal, Amroha and Moradabad participated enthusiastically in this workshop.

Shri Suresh Jain, Chancellor, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Dr. Sarika Mohan, District Magistrate (Bijnor), Mr. Vipin Dwivedi, District Magistrate (Sambhal), Prof. R. K. Mudgal, Registrar, Mr. Abhishek Kapoor, Director (Administration) and other eminent personalities of the city were also present on the occasion.
