5 Day Workshop on Hydroponics A Futuristic Way of Agriculture
Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Agriculture Sciences organised a five-day workshop on “Hydroponics: A Futuristic Way of Agriculture in association with Grassroots Agri, Dehradun from February 07 to 11, 2023. The aim of the workshop is to educate participants on the principles and practices of hydroponic farming. The workshop covered a range of topics, including the benefits of hydroponics, different types of hydroponic systems, plant nutrition and harvesting techniques. In total 121 students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture programme participated in the insightful workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated on February 07, 2023, by Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Singh, Dean, Students' Welfare, Teerthanker Mahaveer University. He briefed students about Hydroponics, he told that it is a method of growing plants in nutrient-rich water without soil. It is a highly efficient way of agriculture as it uses less water, land, and fertilizers than traditional farming methods. Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Jain, Dean, College of Agriculture Sciences, said, hydroponics is a promising solution to many of the challenges faced by modern agriculture, and a workshop on this topic would educate students about this futuristic way of growing crops.
On the first day, Grassroots Agri provided the orientation and introduction to Hydroponics farming. On successive days, experts covered all important aspects related to Hydroponics including the types of hydroponic farming systems & their technical aspects, identification of different equipment used in the hydroponic system, IPM, market trends, commercial aspects, preparation of the cocopeat for nursery & its management, business opportunities, greenhouses, crop selection, nutrients preparation, NFT system as well as transplantation of plants.
The valedictory function was observed on February 11, 2023. The Honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Raghuvir Singh, along with Prof. (Dr.) M. P Singh and Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Jain graced the event with their presence. They enlightened the participants with their exceptional knowledge and greeted coordinators and experts in organising this workshop. The workshop ended with the distribution of certificates to all the participants. Dr Vimal Kumar Dubey, Dr Praveen Kumar Singh, Dr Sachchida Nand Singh, Dr Shakuli Saxena, Dr Neha, Dr Upasana, Dr Luxmi Kant Tripathi and Dr Sunil Kumar were the main lead to the accomplishment of this workshop.
