Environmental Factors Among Children Contributing to the Onset of Behavior Disorders

“Environmental Factors such as a dysfunctional family life, childhood abuse, traumatic experiences, a family history of substance abuse, and inconsistent discipline by parents may contribute to the development of conduct disorder” Says Dr. Prena Gupa, TMU Senior Psychiatrist. 

Disruptive behaviour may have a negative impact on school and home life for many children and adolescents with unmanaged conduct disorder.

Children with conduct disorder are more likely to struggle academically and face frequent disciplinary action at school, including suspension. Children who are regularly disciplined may develop low self-esteem and confidence, and they may be more likely to skip school or drop out. 

Struggling to form or maintain friendships and relationships, including those with family members, may be more common in children with this condition.

The above thoughts were expressed in the seminar on the occasion of World Mental Health Day. The students were informed about the prevalent conditions and its cure in mental health.
