National Pharmacovigilance Week Celebration at TMMCRC
Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre (TMMCRC) celebrated National Pharmacovigilance Week from the September 17-23, 2022 in association with Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre (AMC) under PvPI. The theme for this year is “Role of Consumer Reporting in Pharmacovigilance or Active Pharmacovigilance of SGLT2 Inhibitors”. Dr Jai Prakash, officer-in-charge, PvPI, Senior Principal Scientific Officer, IPC, Ghaziabad, instructed the Medical Colleges which are constituents of the Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI) to celebrate National Pharmacovigilance Week between September 17-23, 2022.
AMC Coordinator – Prof. (Dr.) Prithpal Singh Matreja, Prof & Head, Dept. of Pharmacology and faculty members of Dept. of Pharmacology – Dr. Shilpa Partick (Professor), Dr. Preeti Singh (Professor), Dr. Meenu Thomas (Assistant Professor), Dr. Pooja Agarwal (Assistant Professor) and Dr. Dhyuti Gupta (Senior Resident) organised three events to mark the celebration of 2nd Pharmacovigilance Week. The first event for the celebration as a part of national conferences organised by the Society of Pharmacovigilance India (SOPI) at Aligarh Muslim University was an online quiz on Pharmacovigilance between MBBS Students of Batch 2020-21 of TMMC&RC versus JNMCH (AMU).
Dr. Jai Prakash, Senior Principal Scientific Officer and Incharge, PvPI, IPC, MoHFW, GOI inaugurated the special exhibition of publications on pharmacovigilance extant at the office of SOPI (Online). Prof. (Dr.) S. Z Rahman of Pharmacology, JNMCH, AMU, Aligarh and Executive Member of SOPI were instrumental in the planning and successful conduct of the quiz. The quiz was conducted on the afternoon of 20th September 2022, a preliminary round for the quiz was held before shortlisting four MBBS students each from TMMC&RC and AMU for the final round of the quiz. These two teams were given a set of 15 questions through the zoom portal which was coordinated by Prof (Dr.) Prithpal Singh Matreja.
Each set of questions consisted of MCQs and short answers based on problem-based learning, images and videos on the core concepts of Pharmacovigilance. The questions were based on data generated from the website of IPC. The winners of the quiz were Team TMU (TMMC&RC) which consisted of Gauri Dhyana, Mahak Varshney, Palak Singh and Vageesh Mishra of Batch 2020-21. Team AMU was declared runners-up and consisted of Syed Hilal Husain, Nosheen Neyazi, Vishesh Singhal and Bhavya Garg of Batch 2020-21. Two students of TMMC&RC of batch 2020-21 received consolation prizes – Aditya Anant and Hemlata Vishwakarma.
A guest lecture on pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance reporting was organised by Aligarh Muslim University (AMC), the guest speaker for the session was Mr. Maneesh Soni, Senior Materiovigilance Associate from IPC Ghaziabad in collaboration with Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Pharmacy, Moradabad. The session had a total of more than 200 registrations by students which included students of MBBS Batch 2020-21 and Pharm.D students along with faculty members. The session began with a brief introduction from the speaker followed by an explanation of the importance of the Pharmacovigilance and Materiovigilance Program. He described what are the various modes of reporting and gave a detailed description of the form to be filled with examples of hypothetical case reports.
A poster presentation on the theme “Role of Consumer Reporting in Pharmacovigilance or Active Pharmacovigilance of SGLT2 Inhibitors” was accomplished on 21st September 2022 with two teams from MBBS students of Batch 2020-21 of TMMC&RC and 7 teams from Pharm.D students of Teerthanker Mahaveer College of Pharmacy (TMCOP) participated in the competition. A total of 9 posters were submitted for the same and they were judged by the Faculty of Pharmacology Department of TMMC&RC – Dr. Shilpa Patrick (Prof – Pharmacology), Dr. Preeti Singh (Prof – Pharmacology), Dr. Meenu Thomas (Asstt Prof – Pharmacology), Dr. Pooja Agrawal (Asstt Prof – Pharmacology) and Dr. Dhyuti Gupta (Sen. Res. – Pharmacology).
The judgment criteria for the poster presentation were based on concept, content and understanding of the topic. The winners of the poster presentation were Abhijit Murali, Adarsh Kesari, Insharah Khan and Roshan Pandey. Our MBBS students also sent posters and videos for participation in the competition organised by IPC, three MBBS students sent e-poster– Manik Narula, Aliza Yashfeen and Bhanu Pratap Dubey.
