Alumni Talk: Hina Qamar Talks on Radiation from Sydney

14, October 2022, As per the tradition of Teerthanker Mahaveer University, alumni always live in a traditional bond with the current students and take the responsibility of guiding them in the field of education, knowledge and career growth. The university invited alumna Hina Qamar, a student of the Bachelor of Radiological Imaging and Technique of 2010-2014 batch to speak on “Radiation Risk As Well As Justification Image Optimizations in Radiography.” She is currently working as a Manager at I-MED Radiology Network in Sydney, Australia.


During the welcome address, Prof. Nikhil Rastogi, Joint Registrar, Alumni Relations Cell, stated that Alumni are our valuable ambassadors and the most important part of our future hopes. He appreciated all the efforts made by Hina Qamar for the development of society and the nation. The objective of these programs is to connect the alumni with their alma mater and through this, help them to notice various changes in the alma mater over the years.


Hina Qamar, in her online address, gave her views on radiation risk as well as justification for image optimizations in radiography. She told how she has achieved high status with ups and downs in her life. Telling her successful journey, she thanked TMU for providing holistic development, practical knowledge and supportive faculty members. She said TMU helped her to get admission to Sydney University through the scholarship.


During her lecture, What is radiation? What are its risks? She explained in detail the use of radiation in hospitals, radiotherapy, and how it is done in punching labs etc. She said that one should do an X-ray of the patient with honesty, emotion and evidence with care and confidence so that both benefits and risks can be balanced. She added that radiation can cause two types of effects. One person may be affected immediately or in future generations. It all depends on the radiation whether the radiation was applied at once or gradually. She also told the principles of radiation and its three basic components: Justification, Optimization, and Diagnostics.


In the end, Hina Qamar pointed out that optimization is an important step. Through this, one can know whether the quality and measurement of the images are correct or not. At the end of the program, students Durgesh Kumar, Himanshu Singh, Rahila Irfan, and Harshit Raghav asked their questions. Later, Prof. Navneet Kumar, Principal of the College of Paramedical Sciences congratulated Alumna Hina and all the students on this occasion to justify the years spent at the university.
