Department of Pharmacology Organised Case-Based Learning Programme

Department of Pharmacology, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre (TMMC & RC) conducted a Case-Based Learning programme for the MBBS student of Batch 2020-21. It was one of its kind initiative to involve all the students and teach them the mode of self-directed learning. This activity aims to enhance student motivation and practical understanding of pharmacology. The programme was organised as per the recommendations of the Medical Council of India (MCI).


During the event, each student was given the opportunity to choose a particular disease on which they would like to work on. The students had to search for and write all the aspects of the disease allotted to them including the etiology, pathogenesis, management differential diagnosis as well as clinical manifestation. This was followed by an activity in which these students had to follow up with at least 5 patients of the disease allotted to them and note all the details of treatment and manifestation of patients and the rationale for the prescription of the drugs given to them by the physician.


These projects were allotted and evaluated by the faculty members of the Department of Pharmacology, Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre including Dr. Prithpal Singh Matreja, Dr. Shilpa Patrick, Dr. Preeti Singh, Dr. Meenu Thomas, Dr. Pooja Agrawal and Dr. Dhyuti Gupta. The faculty members evaluated the project on the completeness and essential details of the study. Based on the evaluation 18 projects were selected to be presented for final judgment and presentation.


The students were directed to present one case and prepare the same under the guidance of faculty, with a focus on treatment and rationale for drug usage. The projects were evaluated on the detailed discussion of the case which was followed by a questions and answers round with the judges. The winner of the event was Palak Singh. Aditya Annant and Anjali Mongjam were the first runners-up and Maibam Angeleena was the second runner-up. The session ended with words of encouragement from the judges.
