English Skit Competition Held at TMU

On March 18th and 19th, 2024, Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) witnessed an extraordinary event—the English Skit Competition organised by the Free Thinkers Club. Hosted at the College of Computing Sciences and Information Technology (CCSIT), this event brought together students, faculty, and dignitaries for a celebration of creative expression and public speaking. The competition aimed to promote free thinking and enhance English speaking skills among students through engaging performances.

Chief Guest and Dignitaries

The ceremony was graced by Prof. R.K. Dwivedi, the Principal of CCSIT, who was the chief guest. Prof. Dwivedi is renowned for his visionary leadership and was instrumental in the establishment of the Free Thinkers Club. Alongside him were other esteemed guests including Dr. Sonia Jayant, Assistant Professor; Ms. Indu Tripathi, Assistant Professor; Dr. Vipin Kumar, IQAC Head; and Dr. Parag Agarwal, among others.

The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp before Maa Saraswati, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge. Prof. R.K. Dwivedi delivered an inspiring speech emphasising the importance of free thinking and having a purposeful life. His address was followed by a detailed introduction to the judges and the competition format.

Skit Performances

The heart of the event was the skit performances. Nine groups from various departments showcased their creative talents through skits on diverse themes. 

Skit 1: Education and Politics

 Performed by BCA students, this skit explored the intricate relationship between education systems and political influence. The performance was both thought-provoking and engaging.

Skit 2: Men's Harassment

  The BTech CSE group presented this skit, which addressed the often overlooked issue of men's harassment. Their portrayal aimed to spark important conversations around this serious topic.

Skit 3: Mental Illness

  Presented by the 'Demolition Crew' from BTech CSE, this skit highlighted the complexities of mental health challenges. Their performance provided a deep and sensitive exploration of mental illness.

Skit 4: Corruption

  'The Radiant Six' from BSc Hons Maths tackled the theme of corruption with flawless execution. The skit was noted for its impactful message and excellent presentation.

Skit 5: Sanskar

  Performed by 'Constellation of Stars from BCA CCSIT, this skit unravelled societal norms and moral decay, providing a critical view of contemporary issues.

Skit 6: Fukrey Boys

  This humorous skit by BTech CSE students offered an entertaining yet insightful look at various social issues, showcasing their creative talents.

Skit 7: Stress on Teenagers

  The BTech CSE group, 'The Losers,' delivered a compelling performance addressing the pressures faced by teenagers, resonating deeply with the audience.

Skit 8: Medical Malpractice

  'Kickbacks' from BTech CSE explored ethical dilemmas in the medical field through their skit, offering a thought-provoking perspective on a critical issue.

Skit 9: A Daughter

  The BCA CCSIT group 'Rhimjhim’ presented a poignant skit reflecting on the parent-child bond, touching on the complexities of familial relationships.

Winners and Awards

The competition concluded with the announcement of the winners. The first prize was awarded to 'The Radiant Six' for their skit on corruption. The second prize went to 'The Loosers' for their portrayal of stress on teenagers. A consolation prize was given to 'Demolition Crew' for their insightful skit on mental illness. All participants and volunteers were honoured with certificates in recognition of their efforts.

It not only showcased the students' talents but also emphasised the importance of free thinking and effective communication.
