Guest Lecture organized by the Department of Pharmacology, TMMC&RC
Under the aegis of the National Association of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the Department of Pharmacology, TMMC&RC conducted a guest lecture on July 8, 2022 by Dr. Subhrojyoti Bhowmick, NABH Assessor for Hospital Accreditation Program & Clinical Director of Academics, Medical Quality & Clinical Research at Peerless Hospital & B K Roy Research Center, Kolkata.
Dr. Bhowmick delivered a guest lecture on Medication Errors and Patient Safety. A total of 210 registrations were there on Zoom Out, of which 160 attended the lecture. The lecture was attended by MBBS students of the Batch 2020, as well as PG and faculty from other institutes across India. This session was taken keeping in mind the importance of certain topics that should be handled with diligence. Dr. Bhowmick highlighted the impact of Medication Error and the Experiences of Eastern India, the cost involved in Medication Error. He also emphasised the importance of Look Alike/ Sound Alike (LASA) drugs. He also mentioned the various levels at which medication error occurs, with a focus on human error and Errors involved at all levels of health care.
Dr. Bhowmick said the environment is for reporting Medication errors should not be punitive. The reports that are published are just the tip of the iceberg as most of these errors are never reported. He laid down the importance of a separate unit to look at after a medication error with a dedicated team under a clinical pharmacologist. This was followed by thanks giving by Dr. Prithpal Singh Matreja (Prof. & Head, Department of Pharmacology, TMMC&RC). The lecture was also attended by Dr. S K Jain (Vice Principal, and Prof. & Head, Dept. of Anatomy) and other faculty from the Department of Pharmacology – Dr. Shilpa Patrick, Dr. Preeti Singh, Dr. Pooja Agarwal, Dr. Meenu Thomas, and Dr. Dhyuti Gupta.
