Pharmabiz 2022: Quiz of Pharmacology

Department of Pharmacology of Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Centre under the aegis of the Indian Society of Rational Pharmacotherapeutics (ISRPT) organised Pharmabiz -2022 (Quiz on Pharmacology) as pharmacology quizzes are the optimal way to evaluate students’ knowledge of medications and treatments. The preliminary round of the quiz was held on 10th November 2022 where four sets of MCQ questions (50 MCQs in each set) were given to MBBS students of Batch 2020-21 for qualification for the final round of the quiz.

Two participants who scored the highest marks in each set were selected to participate in the final round of the quiz. A total of 8 students were selected for the final round and were randomly divided into four groups. The final round of the quiz was held on 21st November 2022 in the New LT of TMMC & RC and the participants were further randomly divided into four teams: Team Adrenaline of Vishal Pathak and Richie Sangya; Team Bradykinin of Divyanshi Yadav and Palak Singh; Team Calcitonin of Rahul Prakash and Tanya Yadav; and Team Dopamine of Prateek Singh and Shynie Jamwal.

The quiz consisted of five rounds and after the first two rounds, the team with the lowest score was eliminated. The top three teams participated in the next two rounds after which the team with the lowest scoring team was eliminated leaving us with two teams. These two teams then took the final round to decide the winner. The first round (Kuch to Bolo) consisted of MCQ with five options out of which one was correct, each team was given three questions with 10 points for each correct response and it was no pass and no negative marking round. The second round (Pehchan Kaun) consisted of three clues (statements) and the students had to guess the name of the drug.

If the team answered the first clue they got 20 points, in the second clue they got 15 points and in the third clue they got 10 points. For each wrong attempt, 10 points were deducted. If the other team answered it they got 10 points. After the first two rounds, Team Calcitonin had the lowest score and was eliminated. The other three teams competed for the next two rounds. The third round (Kar Bhala to ho Bura) was a round on adverse drug reaction – each team was given two questions. Each question had one picture of the adverse drug reaction followed by two questions.

The team had to answer both questions to score 20 points, no point was given for answering only one question. The question was then passed to the next team and if they answered both correctly they got 10 points. This was followed by the Fourth Round (Bhule Bisre Panne) which was the history round - each team was given two questions. Each question had one picture of the scientist and two statements about the work done by the scientist which was followed by two questions. The team had to answer both questions to score 20 points, no point was given for answering only one question.

The question was then passed to the next team and if they answered both correctly they got 10 points. After the end of the fourth round, the team with the lowest score (Team Dopamine) was eliminated. The final round (Total Dhamaal) was between Team Adrenaline & Bradykinin – This was the rapid-fire round. Each team had to answer a total of 20 questions/ maximum number of questions in 2 minutes, 10 points were given for each correct response. The questions were either one-word or true/ false statements. At the end of round 5, the team consisting of Divyanshi Yadav and Palak Singh were runners-up and the event was won by Team Adrenaline of Vishal Pathak and Richie Sangyu.

All the participants as well as the audience were given awards. The awards were presented by Dr. Ajay Pant (Principal, TMMC & RC); Dr. S. K. Jain (Vice- Principal and Prof & Head, Dept. of Anatomy; Dr. V.K. Singh (Additional MS, and Prof & Head, Dept. of Medicine), Dr. S Awasthi (Prof & Head, Dept. of Pathology); Dr. J B Kumar (Prof & Head, Dept. of Physiology); Dr. A Chander (Prof & Head, Dept. of Ophthalmology); Dr. Chand (Prof & Head, Dept. of Forensic Medicine); Dr. G S Jheetay (Prof & Head, Dept. of Anesthesia); Dr. Amit Saraf (Prof & Head, Dept. of Orthopedics) and Dr. M Maqsood (Prof & Head, Dept. of Chest & TB).

In the end, Dr. Prithpal Singh Matreja (Prof & HOD, Dept. of Pharmacology) thanked the students for their active participation as well as the entire Department of Pharmacology consisting of Dr. Shilpa Patrick, Dr. Preeti Singh, Dr. Meenu Thomas, Dr. Pooja Agrawal and Dr. Dhyuti Gupta.
