TMU Concludes Successful Virtual Labs Workshop in Collaboration with IIT Kanpur
The Faculty of Engineering (FoE) at Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), Moradabad, in association with IIT Kanpur, successfully concluded a transformative Awareness Session on Virtual Labs on 20th March 2025. The event marked a significant stride in advancing digital pedagogy by integrating simulation-based experimentation into the regular curriculum.
The workshop aimed to enhance technical education through virtual platforms that offer interactive, simulation-driven environments. These digital labs allow students to perform real-time experiments in a virtual format, bridging the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application.
The event commenced at 10:45 AM with an inaugural address by Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Physics, and the Nodal Coordinator of Virtual Labs at TMU. He highlighted the strategic importance of digital tools in revolutionising modern teaching and learning methodologies.
IIT Kanpur’s Expert Leads Live Demonstration of Virtual Experiments
Er. Vinay Kumar Tripathi, Senior Project Associate at Virtual Labs, IIT Kanpur, graced the session. A seasoned professional with an M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Tripathi shared his extensive expertise in digital experimentation platforms.
He conducted a live demonstration of experiments within the Heat and Mass Transfer (HMT) Virtual Lab, focusing on the thermal properties of materials. He further presented simulations from the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Virtual Lab, showcasing how digital tools can effectively replicate physical experiments. The demonstrations were well-received and captivated both students and faculty alike, sparking curiosity and encouraging engagement.

Key Outcomes: Empowering Students with Digital Lab Proficiency
The session provided vital exposure to over 208 students and faculty members, who actively participated in the learning and hands-on segments. Participants gained:
- Operational proficiency in navigating Virtual Labs
- Insight into conducting simulations and analysing results
- Confidence to integrate digital experimentation into coursework and research
Feedback collected post-session indicated a positive reception. Students from varied disciplines—ranging from Computer Science (AI/ML) to Mechanical and Electrical Engineering—acknowledged the flexibility, accessibility, and time-saving nature of virtual labs. Many emphasised how this technology fosters creative thinking and innovation, especially in settings where physical resources may be limited.
Closing Remarks and Acknowledgements
The workshop concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma, who expressed deep appreciation for the collective efforts behind the event’s success. Special recognition was extended to:
- Prof. R. K. Dwivedi, Dean, Faculty of Engineering
- Faculty members, including Dr. Ajay Kumar Upadhyay, Dr. Pavan Kumar Singh, Dr. Vishnu Prasad Srivastava, Mr. Naman Kumar, and Mr. Kailash Kumar
- Technical support and venue coordination teams
