TMU’s Department of Orthology Organised UPOA PGIC Workshop: Prominent Orthopedics Shared Their Experiences
Teerthanker Mahaveer University's Department of Orthology organised the two-day UPOA PGICL (Uttar Pradesh Orthopaedic Association Post Graduate Instructional Course Lectures) workshop on 1st & 2nd October 2022 intending to expose postgraduate students to the clinical environment and focus on authentic problems. Eminent orthopedists of Uttar Pradesh shared their valuable guidance and experience.
On the first day of the workshop, the chief guest, Prof. Raghuvir Singh, Vice Chancellor, TMU, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp in front of Maa Saraswati in the university auditorium in the esteemed presence of Dr. Aditya Sharma, Registrar and Prof. Manjula Jain, Associate Dean. While addressing the audience, Prof. Raghuvir Singh described the relationship between a teacher and a student. He encouraged postgraduate students to carve themselves from the experiences of well-known orthopaedics.
While speaking on the examination of the hip, Dr. C. P. Pal, Professor & Head, SN Medical College, Agra, said that the doctor should rule and keep the patient's body open while doing the test. Also as said, there are problems with hips according to age, while some are by birth. The methodology of the test was explained in detail with the help of a video. MS students were also advised to present their cases effectively and score good marks in the examination.
Dr. Sandeep Kumar, HOD, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences, demonstrated the methods of knee examination practically. The methods of the tests were demonstrated on a man by making him lie down on the table and doctors were called for a question-and-answer round for better understanding. It was a unique way of learning for all the resident doctors. Videos of these tests were also shown.
Dr. Ashish Kumar, President of Uttar Pradesh Orthopedics Association (UPOA), described the injury to the soft tissue around the knee such as muscles, threads, etc. He also explained the way to treat the patient with the state-of-the-art MRI machine with the help of PPT and how to identify the diseases with an MRI scan. He credited Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College & Research Center and TMU Management Committee for hosting it for the second time in a row.
Dr. S.K. Jain, Vice Principal of TMU Medical College, Dr. VK Singh, Additional Medical Superintendent & HOD of Medicine Department, Dr. Mazhar Maqsood, HOD of TB Department, Dr. Ashish Kumar, President, UPOA, Dr. Deepak Rastogi, President, Moradabad Ortho Club, Dr. Prakhar Agarwal, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Vakul Mahipal, Dr. Naresh Rana and Dr. Ankit Narang, also had a notable presence. In the last session, junior resident doctors presented cases regarding the patients present in the ward. In the end, mementoes and certificates were also given to the guests.
