TMU Concludes Two-Day International Conference on Sustainable Development

The TMIMT College of Management and Technology hosted a two-day conference on "Sustainable Development Goals: Challenges, Issues & Practices" at Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU). The event brought together over 450 researchers, international experts, industry leaders, and students to explore inclusive and practical approaches to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Thought Leaders Emphasise Collective Action and Ethics

The conference opened with insights from Dr. Saurabh Gupta, Advisor, National Intelligence Grid, Ministry of Home Affairs, who served as the Chief Guest. In his keynote, he stressed the importance of ethical responsibility in technological advancement and highlighted that sustainable development must be a shared responsibility, not just a government initiative.

Other distinguished speakers included:

  • Prof. Sachin Maheshwari, Vice Chancellor, Guru Jambheshwar University

They spoke on integrating sustainability within academia, green innovation in industries, and start-ups as pillars of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Vibrant Panel Discussions on Core SDG Themes

The conference featured more than six expert panel discussions, delving into pressing global issues such as:

  • Poverty eradication and clean energy
  • Climate change and environmental responsibility
  • Sanitation and sustainable urbanisation
  • Inclusive education and agricultural innovation

Notable sessions were led by Mr. Nishant Krishna, Vice President, HDFC Bank, on financial inclusion, and Dr. Vikrant Singh from International Tractors Ltd., who emphasised technological empowerment in agriculture.

TMU Reinforces Commitment to NEP and SDGs

Prof. V.K. Jain, Vice Chancellor, TMU, remarked that achieving SDGs at the grassroots level is a shared duty of all institutions and citizens alike. Prof. Manjula Jain, Dean Academics, aligned the vision of the SDGs with the core spirit of India’s National Education Policy (NEP).

Prof. Vipin Jain, Dean, TMIMT, encouraged the student community to adopt a problem-solving mindset and become active contributors to global sustainability efforts.

Global Participation and Research Excellence

The conference received 468 research paper presentations, both in-person and virtual, covering a wide array of sustainability topics. International delegates from countries including Fiji, Oman, the UK, the USA, and Switzerland joined remotely, enriching the dialogue with diverse global perspectives.

Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Highlighting the importance of youth engagement, students set up entrepreneurship stalls that showcased eco-friendly ideas and innovations. These exhibits reflected TMU’s commitment to fostering sustainable entrepreneurship and experiential learning.

The event was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Deepti Raj Verma, Anand Joshi, and Anshu Chauhan and received strong support from faculty and student volunteers alike.
