TMU Organises Workshop on “Mapping Youth Aspiration” in Collaboration with India Foundation
Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU), in association with India Foundation, successfully conducted a special workshop on “Mapping Youth Aspiration”, designed to understand and guide the career outlook of today’s youth. The workshop addressed students’ career ambitions, evolving industry trends, and employment opportunities. Held across three interactive sessions, the event witnessed participation from students of multiple faculties.
Understanding the Future Vision of Today’s Youth
The primary objective of the workshop was to gather first-hand feedback from students on how they perceive their future careers and what aspirations they hold in a rapidly evolving job landscape.
Each session was curated to cater to different academic backgrounds:
- Session 1 included students from Nursing and B.Tech.
- Session 2 involved students from B.Sc. B.Ed., B.El.Ed., Law, and CTLD.
- Session 3 featured participation from the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences.
During these sessions, discussions highlighted a distinct trend: medical students leaned towards private sector employment, while students from teaching backgrounds expressed a strong preference for government jobs. While most students were open to domestic migration, they showed reluctance toward international relocation, primarily due to familial responsibilities.

Key Discussion Areas and Student Concerns
The sessions delved into several critical themes:
- Differences between public and private sector employment
- Career passion versus social pressures
- The importance of CVs and resumes
- Salary expectations and job satisfaction
- The impact of social media on youth
- Necessary reforms in the education system
Students expressed concern over the lack of focus on skill development in the current education system. They pointed out that societal expectations often deter them from pursuing subjects of their interest. Emphasis was laid on the need for practical learning over theoretical instruction.
Many also criticised the overwhelming administrative responsibilities placed on teachers, which, according to students, hinder their core teaching effectiveness. There was a shared sentiment that teaching should stem from genuine passion, not just employment needs, to inspire creativity and innovative thinking.
A notable concern was the increasing mental stress among youth, largely attributed to systemic flaws in education and excessive use of social media. Students voiced that education should not revolve around marks alone, but should instead aim at knowledge and skill acquisition. They advocated for a skill-based learning framework that enables real-world application of knowledge.
Closing Remarks and Future Vision
The workshop concluded with a heartfelt address by Prof. M.P. Singh, Director of Student Welfare, who emphasised the importance of pursuing knowledge over mere degrees. He commended the students for openly sharing their perspectives and highlighted how such platforms are vital for youth engagement and system-level reforms.
This insightful workshop provided a robust platform for students to express their aspirations, concerns, and recommendations regarding education and career planning. By facilitating such open dialogues, TMU continues to reaffirm its commitment to student-centric growth and holistic development.
