Innovations at TMU: Students Build Custom Chopper Bike
Anyone can buy a motorbike and learn to ride it, but the engineering behind one could be properly grasped by constructing one; believes the engineering students of TMU. The Teerthanker Mahaveer University’s Faculty of Engineering (FOE) - Polytechnic final year students tested the boundaries of knowledge and discovered a custom chopper bike that better our lives and the planet.
A custom chopper bike is a motorcycle with stylistic and structural changes to the ‘standard’ mass-produced machine offered by the majority of manufacturers. Custom motorcycles are unique and built-in limited quantities.
In this custom chopper bike 175 CC 2-stroke, the BS-III Rajdoot, petrol engine is used. The chassis is made in the TMU Lab with the use of stainless steel pipes. The suspension and other parts are assembled in the lab. This bike can run on any type of road. During design, the comfort of the driver is considered the utmost priority, so that we can use it for long drives. This bike can run at a top speed of 80 km/hr, with a mileage of 40 km/hr. Individual motorcyclists have completely altered the appearance of their machines since the very first days of motorcycling.
The term “chopper” is used to describe a motorcycle or bicycle that has had some of its original parts replaced with custom parts. Today’s definition has grown to include custom motorcycles and bicycles that are low to the ground, usually with extended forks creating a long front end.
When asked by the Principal and Director of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. R. K. Dwivedi about this innovation, he says, “Most students will remember this experience over their lifetime and call upon both the technical and interpersonal aspects of the project,” “I am really proud of this team. They worked hard and used all the resources available to efficiently and effectively achieve the goals of the project,” added Dr. Dwivedi.
GVC Shri Manish Jain & Chancellor Shri Suresh Jain are elated to see this project and wish future success to this group.
